Public Life

Amiya Kumar Mazumdar is best known as an erudite thinker, a versatile orator, an outstanding scholar, a successful teacher, and above all, a modest humanist for his relentless efforts to the spread of Ramakrishna-Vivekananda ideals. In early days, Amiya Kumar was influenced by Sanat Kumar Mazumdar, his uncle who joined Ramakrishna Order with initiation from Sarada Devi and became Swami Jnaneshananda. Later on, Amiya Kumar's close association with Swami Abhayananda (Bharat Maharaj) and Swami Nityaswarupananda (Chintaharan Maharaj) of Ramakrishna Mission had a significant impact on his spiritual life.

Amiya Kumar took part in many international symposia; at a young age representing India, he made a mark in the UNESCO International Peace Initiatives held in 1959 at Dhaka, East Pakistan.
